PERRY HALL, MD — Baltimore County has more than 46,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, according to state health data released Tuesday. Over 4,800 of those are in nursing homes, the data shows. On Monday, they became eligible as Maryland entered phase 1C of its vaccine distribution plan. Also qualifying for the vaccine are grocery store workers, postal employees, food production personnel and others who are in essential roles. Baltimore County has administered more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine than any other jurisdiction in the state. As of Tuesday, data shows the county has given 56,848 coronavirus vaccinations. More than 6,700 Marylanders have died from the virus since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Maryland Department of Health. Hospitalizations from the virus are down statewide after hitting a peak Jan. 12. At that time, there were 1,952 patients hospitalized with the virus in Maryland. Two weeks later, the number has decreased by 310; state health data shows 1,642 patients are hospitalized with the virus Tuesday, Jan. 26. In Baltimore County, coronavirus-related hospitalizations are also on a downward trend. They had 140 patients hospitalized with the virus as of Sunday, Jan. 24, the latest data available.
