MASSAPEQUA, NY — The Massapequa School District has appointed Shannon McEntee as the new director of physical education, health, athletics and recreation. She will assume her new role on July 1, replacing John Piropato who is retiring after 13 years in the position.
Since 2017, McEntee has been the administrator for physical education in the Sachem School District, working with the health education, health services and physical education programs as well as athletic programs at two high schools. Prior to Sachem, she taught physical education and health for 11 years at South Side High School in Rockville Centre. Additionally, she has been a head soccer and softball coach at the varsity and junior varsity level, and an assistant varsity basketball coach.
McEntee earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and health and a master's degree in health education from Adelphi University, where she played soccer. She holds building and district leadership certifications from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
"I am excited to come back and be a part of the leadership program that helped shaped my career," said McEntee, who did her student teaching 15 years ago at Massapequa High School's Ames Campus.
In addition to supervising health and physical education, she will oversee the Massapequa Chiefs athletics program, which includes more than 30 varsity and junior varsity teams, 17 middle school teams and intramural sports. Also under her purview will be the district's summer recreation program and sports skills camps.
McEntee is a member of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and president of the Suffolk County Physical Education Council of Administrators.
