EAST HARLEM, NY — A 22-year-old man fatally shot his mother Wednesday in an East Harlem housing complex, reportedly after an argument over his failure to get a job, according to police and news reports. Police responded around 9:24 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a shooting in an apartment at 70 East 108th St. — part of the NYCHA Lehman Houses. The victim — identified as 40-year-old Fatoumata Danson by the Daily News — was found unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, 22-year-old Musa Camara, fled the building and fired a shot at a bystander on the street, according to police. Camara, who reportedly has a history of mental illness, was apprehended shortly after he fired at the stranger, and was later taken to Metropolitan Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, the Daily News reported. He was charged with second-degree murder. Relatives mourned Danson, a home health aide originally from The Gambia, as "a very sweet person" who worked hard to provide for her family, according to the Daily News.
