Jerry Kapp40 Days for Life, Granite City Jerry and his wife, Stephanie, live in Edwardsville. They have been blessed with two children and three absolutely beautiful grandchildren. Jerry retired from an Information Technology career where he worked with a variety of major companies designing, developing, and implementing software applications. While he loved the intellectual challenges, his career provided he never felt it was his calling. ' While praying with 40 Days for Life in Granite City during the 2019 fall campaign, his calling found him. Seeing the women suffering from the physical and emotional pain of abortion touched his heart. He began praying, “Lord, what more can I do?” Their suffering reminded him of the suffering he felt in high school with the death of his friends, his mother’s illness and her death a few years later, and their son’s near death his sophomore year of college. These taught him the frailty, preciousness, and sacredness of all life. On the evening of October 21, 2019, while praying at Hope Clinic Jerry, like others in the area, learned Planned Parenthood opened a mega-facility in Fairview Heights. His heart sank, yet almost immediately he knew what the “more” was. He felt Jesus was calling him to the sidewalk. He tried to ignore it but couldn’t. And with the encouragement of a dear friend, he gave his yes. In December, Jerry began volunteering as a sidewalk advocate with Coalition for Life at Planned Parenthood in Fairview Heights. Then in August 2020 he formally launched a compassionate, Christ-centered sidewalk advocacy as an affiliate of Sidewalk Advocates for Life (www.sidewalkadvocates.org). Today Jerry and fellow advocates provide information regarding the many organizations offering free services to women in need and share Christ’s message of hope, love and forgiveness.
