Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC)-Active Bystander
TECC-Active Bystander follows the TECC recommended guideline for assessment and medical intervention of severely injured persons.
Students will walk away as an Active Bystander who can serve a critical role during the initial moments after complex and dynamic disasters. ABs often have immediate access to severely injured victims and can provide time-sensitive, life saving interventions; the AB is the first link in the trauma chain of survival.
Topics covered will include;
- Scene assessment
- Communication
- Evacuation/movements
- Massive hemorrhage control.
- Tourniquets
- Wound packing
- Compression bandaging
- Airway management
- Respiration
- Chest seal application
- Circulation
- Recognition and mitigation of shock
- Hypothermia
- Prevention techniques to prevent hypothermia
Considerations for impaled objects and burns will also be discussed.
Common myths and how to carry equipment will be addressed.
Students will engage in classroom and practical skill application to gain a working knowledge of interventions that may be necessary to deal with traumatic injury.
This will be a 4-4.5 hour class
