NEWPORT, RI — Newport's Emergency Management Agency is calling for health care professionals and members of the public to volunteer to help distribute the coronavirus vaccine in the city. Distribution is expected to start as soon as early March. The city is mostly looking for doctors, nurses and pharmacists, but members of the public are also invited to sign up to volunteer online. "The City is especially interested in hearing from licensed physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants either currently working or retired!" read astatement form the city. "As COVID-19 vaccination sites continue to roll out across the country, we're looking for volunteers to help Newport get vaccinated." Volunteers will likely be stationed at a Medical Emergency Distribution System Point of Dispensing, also known as a MEDS POD, which could be operational as soon as early March.
