Description
Learn proper soldering techniques for electronics. Using the proper techniques for soldering electronics is so crucial that 85 percent of problems with a circuit board stem from improper solder joints. Would you like to learn how to solder properly while also learning how to take care of the tools? This class is taught by John Yarbrough, an experienced electrical engineer who will help you learn how to create proper solder joints while avoiding damage to components and circuit board traces. Guests will gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience, which includes constructing and testing a small robot, which you will have at the end of the class to showcase your newly acquired skills. The tools, components, and supplies used to construct and test the circuit boards for this class will be provided to you, the student. No prior experience with soldering is required. Minors are welcome to attend, though they must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. No additional ticket needed. To address safety considerations, you will be required to bring your own pair of safety glasses or safety goggles. These are required to be worn while working with the tools. Though there will be break times provided, everyone will need to wash their hands with soap and water before eating, drinking, or stepping outside to smoke. Guests are asked to be on time for events. Masks or facial coverings are required at all times, except during breaks to eat, drink, or smoke. Masks and facial coverings must cover the nose and mouth, as mandated in the State of North Carolina. Restrooms are available for hand washing during the event, and hand sanitizer will be available for disinfecting hands as well. Guests will be asked to maintain social distancing during the class. MakerSpace Charlotte is located in the brick side door, up the ramp. Ring the doorbell for entry. View our complete schedule over on MakerspaceCharlotte.org
