Mosque Plans Meet Some Resistance In Naperville: Report

NAPERVILLE, IL — Plans for a new mosque in Naperville have been met with resistance by some residents, according to Chicago Tribune. Islamic Center of Naperville is proposing to build a new mosque complex at 3540 248th Ave. The proposed development would include a domed mosque, a school, a multi-purpose hall and a gymnasium. Ahead of a recent zoning and planning meeting, residents submitted close to 2,000 signatures that supported or opposed the development plans. Chicago Tribune reports that 1,610 signatures were in favor of the mosque plans, whereas 305 signatures were opposed to the development. Those in opposition to the mosque plans cited concerns about increased traffic, noise and light pollution. The commission is set to hear oral comments about the development on Feb. 3. If approved, the development will break ground later in 2021. The multi-phase project is expected to be completed over a span of 40 years. More via Chicago Tribune
