Darien Teachers To Protest Return To In-Person Learning: Report

DARIEN, CT — Several Darien Public Schools teachers this week plan to stage a "black out" and dress in black to protest a return to in-person learning, which many deem to be unsafe during the coronavirus pandemic, reports the Stamford Advocate. Darien Education Association President Joslyn Delancey launched the protest after Schools Superintendent Alan Addley late last week announced plans to return to in-person learning for certain grades at the high school and middle school. Dozens of Darien parents had signed a petition earlier this month calling on the district to return to in-person learning as soon as possible. Addley's plan also calls for more students to return to in-person learning in staggered fashion in early February and early March. As of Monday, there were 35 positive coronavirus cases among members of the Darien Public Schools community, and 158 people were under quarantine, according to district officials.
