REDONDO BEACH, CA — Los Angeles County health officials cautioned people Tuesday that bacteria, chemicals, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas are likely to contaminate ocean waters due to recent rainfall. People who enter the water in these areas could become ill, said Los Angeles County Health Officer, Muntu Davis, MD, MPH, earlier this week. Water discharged from storm drains, creeks, and rivers after rainfall could be hazardous, Davis said. The advisory is in effect for all Los Angeles County beaches until at least Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. It could be extended depending on further rainfall, officials said.
