HEALDSBURG, CA — A driver suffered major injuries and her passenger suffered life-threatening injuries in a solo-vehicle crash early Monday morning on U.S. Highway 101 in Healdsburg, the California Highway Patrol said. Santa Rosa CHP officers responded just after 12:15 a.m. Monday to southbound US 101 south of Dry Creek Road, where a 19-year-old Santa Rosa woman driving a Ford Focus had, for reasons still under investigation, veered off the road onto the right shoulder, the CHP said in a news release. The Focus went down a dirt embankment and collided with a tree, CHP Officer David deRutte said. The driver from Santa Rosa and the right-front passenger, a 20-year-old Mendocino man, were both taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for major injuries. Upon arrival at the hospital, the passenger's injuries were deemed life-threatening, deRutte said. The CHP was still investigating what may have caused the driver to veer off the roadway, deRutte said. Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to call the Santa Rosa CHP Office at 707-588-1400.
