Short Range Carbine This class introduces the unique problems associated with using the AR pattern rifle at shorter distances. This class introduces the unique problems associated with using the AR pattern rifle at shorter distances. Topics covered include: snap shooting, reliable safety manipulation, sight offset concerns, appropriate ready positions, movement around friendlies, and reloads. Disclaimers This class will make extensive use of dry practice in order to maximize learning – don’t expect to fire a live round in the first hour. There will be no magazine dumps at 10 yards. This class’s context is that of the armed citizen or uniform patrol officer, not the Delta Seal Operator Dude. Students will need: • A carbine, AR pattern highly recommended • 150-200 rounds of ammunition for your carbine. • Three empty magazines • Hearing/eye protection and a brimmed hat. About John Hearne John has been an instructor for Tom Givens of Rangemaster since 2001. As an instructor, John has traveled the country, teaching numerous handgun, shotgun, rifle, and instructor classes for private citizens, law enforcement, and military personnel. Military units trained include 20th SF Group, USMC High Risk Personnel Course Training Cadre, and Kentucky National Guard Military Police Units. John has conducted firearms, tactics, and use of force training for his law enforcement agency since 2002. John was nominated in 2005 for the South East Region’s Outstanding Training Award for development of a long gun transition program which included the creation of a 37 page manual. As part of on-going training, John has developed numerous training sessions including lesson plans, student handouts, and classroom presentations on a variety of topics including: firearms, legal updates, building entry/clearance, use of force, officer survival, downed officer rescue, and criminal behavior. John has been a Federal Law Enforcement Officer since 1992. He currently serves as a supervisor at one of the agency’s busiest sites for law enforcement activity. He has had numerous duty assignments including: uniform patrol, field training, plain clothes details, woodland surveillance, anti-poaching details, high-profile site security assignments, search and rescue, structural fire suppression, and emergency medicine (former Park Medic). John also served as an agency prosecutor, practicing in the Eastern District of California, handling trials, plea negotiations, discovery, and sentencing recommendations. John served as a Field Training Officer, Field Training Supervisor, and Member of the National Field Training Advisory Committee from 2004 to 2016 and received a special recognition award for the second largest number of Daily Trainee Reports complete by any of his agency’s officers. Other Significant Contributions To date, John has created three different reactive targets for firearms training. These include MGM’s Proper Popper and Econo-Dropper and the Hard Head Ted Target from DVC Targets. John also developed comprehensive checklists for Sig Sauer pistol and AR-15/M-16 armorers that are used by numerous agencies. Competitive Shooting Experience John has been shooting in local and national events since 1999. He has numerous wins in pistol, shotgun, rifle, and threegun matches. Significant performances include: Placed in Top Eight of Man-on-Man Shootoff at Rangemaster Tactical Conference(2019); 4 th Place Overall and High Lawman Rangemaster Tactical Conference/Polite Society Match (2016); 2 nd Place Overall and High Lawman Rangemaster Tactical Conference/Polite Society Match (2015), 2 nd Place Overall and High Lawman Rangemaster Tactical Conference/Polite Society Match (2012), 2 nd Place Overall Rangemaster Tactical Conference/Polite Society Match (2011), 1st Place Blue Steel Patrol Rifle Match (2009), 1st Place Rangemaster/Polite Society Match (2004); 4th Place Rangemaster/Polite Society Match (2009); High Lawman Rangemaster/Polite Society Match (2002); Recognized as a Top Practitioner at the National Tactical Invitational (2006).
