Description
US Supreme Court shows that ain't nothing gonna happen when it comes to Donald Trump profiting from the presidency.
Today the Supreme Court ends Trump emoluments lawsuits. He was able to use the office of the Presidency to line his own pockets by sending diplomats to his hotels and restaurants. He broke the law and will avoid any penalty or even lawsuit.
No government official is above the law. If this couldn't be handled when Trump was in office, then the fact that he is out of office shouldn't make the matter moot. The laws need to be changed so that this doesn't happen in the future.
This legal battle has been going on for as long as Trump has been in office, and may not have even been resolved if he won a second term. Congress is going to have to pass stronger laws to punish violations of the emoluments clause.
They also need to pass stronger laws to enforce subpoenas. McGahn (WH counsel who was instructed by Trump to get Mueller fired) refused a subpoena in May 2019 and that farking case is still ongoing.
Government is of the people, not above the people. The laws should apply equally to all. If they are above the law then why should anyone be held accountable?
