SALEM, MA — North Shore officials largely celebrated the history made and the tone of unity struck at the inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Wednesday at Washington D.C. Biden succeeded former President Donald Trump as the 46th president of the United States with the declaration: "We'll press forward with speed and urgency, for we have much to do in this winter of peril and significant possibilities, much to repair, much to restore, much to heal, much to build, and much to gain." Harris became the first woman, first Black person and first person of South Asian descent to become vice president. We can no longer say we have never had a woman and person of color as Vice President of the United States of America. Some days, you're called to lend a hand." Amen. Better days ahead. We all have a role to play - looking forward to doing my part! #HistoryHasItsEyesOnUs pic.twitter.com/cPuOC7SPQB— Kim Driscoll (@MayorDriscoll) January 20, 2021 U.S. Rep. Congratulations Mr. President and Madam Vice President. pic.twitter.com/Qivdr8EmlM— Seth Moulton (@sethmoulton) January 20, 2021 "After four years of division and chaos, dignity and empathy have returned to the White House," Moulton said. "President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will lead us out of the darkness of this moment, by bringing us together to fight the coronavirus pandemic and heal the soul of our nation. "In the years ahead we will make historic progress and build a safer, stronger, more equitable country. I'm looking forward to all that lies ahead for America under the Biden-Harris Administration." State Rep. Lori Ehrlich (D-Marblehead) and Rep. Paul Tucker (D-Salem) posted their admiration of National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman's inspired poem during the inauguration.
