By Editor, Times of San Diego January 23, 2021 A Camp Pendleton Marine soon will move into a leadership post at a Colorado base, the Department of Defense announced Friday. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. James K. Porterfield, currently assigned as the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force sergeant major at Camp Pendleton, will take a top slot at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado. He replaces Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Paul G. McKenna as the command senior enlisted leader for North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, according to the Office of the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The native of Jacksonville, Florida, enlisted in the Marine Corps in March 1989. In addition to Camp Pendleton, his service in San Diego includes stints as a senior and chief drill instructor for Company M at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), a squad instructor at Drill Instructor School MCRD and Sergeant Major of MCRD. His honors include a Bronze Star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device and two Gold Stars and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device and three Gold Stars.
