Description
CLEVELAND — Two elderly Clevelanders were badly hurt in a fire on Saturday, police announced.
On Saturday night, a duplex on W. 47th caught fire. The blaze was first spotted by a member of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and two Cleveland police officers. The trio got two elderly residents out of the burning house and helped a wheelchair-bound neighbor to safety.
When firefighters arrived, the two residents, 65-years-old and 90-years-old had been evacuated from the house. Both residents were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center with severe burns and are in critical condition, a Cleveland police spokesperson said.
Flames were spreading through the first floor of the duplex, scorching the second floor and threatening to damage a neighboring home. Cleveland firefighters brought the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
