BURR RIDGE, IL — In the last week, Burr Ridge saw an increase of 31 new coronavirus cases, for a total of 901, according to county health authorities. That represents a 3.6 percent increase, lower than the previous week's 5.2 percent. The virus has infected 8.4 percent of the town's population. Of local coronavirus victims, the mortality rate is 3.4 percent. Since the start of the pandemic, the village has had 31 coronavirus deaths, most of them at nursing homes. As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 83.8 coronavirus cases per thousand people, worse than most of its surveyed neighbors. As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,101,819, up 3.5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 18,750 state residents. Nationally, 24.9 million people have caught the virus, up 5.2 percent from the week before. A total of 416,010 people have died from the virus in the United States.
