Woman Killed, Firefighter Injured In Early Morning Aurora Blaze

AURORA, IL — A 39-year-old Aurora woman died Monday after she was trapped inside her home during an early morning fire, according to officials. A caller reported a blaze at a home in the 500 block of Spruce Street around 3:45 a.m. Monday after three children standing outside said the house was on fire and their mother was still inside, officials said in a news release. Firefighters arrived soon after and found the woman in a second-floor bedroom, the release states. Crews from the Aurora Fire Department were moving her through a window of the bedroom when the room caught fire, injuring a 51-year-old captain, officials said. 2 Dead After Car Crashes Into Van While Fleeing Aurora Police The woman was taken in critical condition to AMITA Health Mercy Medical Center, where she later died, officials said. The injured AFD captain was treated at the hospital for minor burns and later released. The fire caused $85,000 in damage and left the home uninhabitable, displacing the three children and their father, officials said. Aurora Fire Department officials said there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
