BIRMINGHAM, AL â Birmingham police have identified the vehicle that likely caused a fatal traffic collision on I-59 in October.
The multi-vehicle wreck that caused one motorist's death occurred Oct. 6.
Police said the wreck was caused by a white vehicle that struck a small silver sedan. The silver sedan was catapulted into an 18-wheeler causing the 18-wheeler to strike a black SUV, Mauldin said. The driver of the 18-wheeler was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the white vehicle left the scene of the wreck.
Sgt. Road Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said Monday that the preliminary investigation suggests the white vehicle appears to be a Nissan Cube.
"The white vehicle struck the silver sedan, causing the sedan to collide with the tractortrailer," Mauldin said. "The tractor trailer then struck the concrete median and a Jeep Cherokee. Both vehicles subsequently fell over the wall onto the 20/59 southbound interstate below."
The Birmingham Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the white vehicle involved in the accident that left the scene. At approximately 5:02 p.m., BPD responded to a traffic collision at I-59 North / I- 59 South. pic.twitter.com/deo94G7H2tâ Bhampolice (@BhamPolice) October 19, 2020 Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Birmingham PD Hit and Run Investigators at 205-254-6555.
