John McCarthy, owner of Rock House Music School and founder of the Rock House Method of music instruction, has been awarded a patent from the US Patent Office for his new method of learning to play piano called KeyTab. This number and letter system allows a player to learn songs and progressions quickly, in weeks compared to years using standard music notation. The KeyTab system comes with a special "KeyTab Note Strip." On this strip, every note is labeled and each octave is color-coded. The note strip fits perfectly behind the keys on any piano or electronic keyboard. Says McCarthy, "KeyTab is a perfect solution to help people wipe the dust off the piano keys and start learning songs. You simply line up the black keys, and you are ready to rock!" It is his hope to have music teachers all around the world using KeyTab with their students, not instead of standard notation but as an accelerator. Rock House Method will have the first Piano KeyTab Songbook ready to release in 2021. This book, to be distributed by Hal Leonard Publishing, will include 30 popular hit songs and the KeyTab Note Strip.
