BIRMINGHAM, AL —A longtime member of the Birmingham business community has died. Leon Edwards, owner of Edwards Chevrolet, died Saturday at the age of 89. Edwards Chevrolet was founded in 1916 by Sterling Edwards, who then passed the torch to his son, Leon in 1962. Since then, Leon Edwards has established himself and his business as a major player in the city's auto dealer industry. An inductee into the Birmingham Business Hall of Fame, Edwards served as president of both the Birmingham Automobile Dealers Association and the National Automobile Dealers Association. Edwards Chevrolet has dealerships in downtown Birmingham and on the U.S. 280 corridor.
