Man Killed In Shootout With Police In Titusville

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man was shot and killed by a Birmingham police officer in Titusville Wednesday, police said. Police say the shooting occurred around 2 p.m. when police responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of 5th Avenue SW. Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department Mauldin said the shooter "took a tactical position on the porch"of a nearby home and fired at officers. When returning fire, police struck the shooter, who was then taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will take over the investigation.
