Press release from the City of Carlsbad: January 21, 2021 The City of Carlsbad is seeking residents interested in filling two vacancies on the City of Carlsbad Arts Commission for the term March 2021 to March 2025. Applications for this volunteer position are available on the city's website or in the City Clerk's Office, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. Applications must be submitted to the City Clerk's Office by noon on Monday, Feb. 22. The Arts Commission advises the City Council on the implementation of the arts element of the Carlsbad General Plan, as well as initiatives in the 2018 Arts & Culture Master Plan. Duties include, but are not limited to: Reviewing and approving community arts grants funding to arts organizations, schools and artists who provide an artistic and educational experience for the citizens Serving in an advisory capacity for continued development and presentation of an array of visual and performing arts experiences in the city Providing a forum for arts concerns and recommendations to the elected officials and their staff concerning arts issues Reviewing and making recommendations upon permanent public art to be acquired by the city, either by commission, purchase, gift or otherwise, and their proposed locations Term: March 2021 to March 2025 The commission consists of seven members appointed by the Mayor with approval of the City Council. Members must be residents of Carlsbad and normally serve four-year terms (unless appointed to fill an unexpired term). Members are required to file a Statement of Economic Interests with the City Clerk and take mandatory Ethics Training every two years. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month.
