BROOKFIELD,WI—A masked person aimed a gun at a camera during a Zoom class at Brookfield Central High School on Thursday, police said. According to police, someone was able to gain unauthorized online access to the Zoom classroom. According to the Elmbrook School District, the incident unfolded during a class to students learning both in-person and virtually. A participant pretending to be one of the actual students in class was allowed into a Zoom meeting from the virtual waiting room, the district said. The individual exposed his buttocks to the camera and pointed a firearm at the camera before being removed from the online meeting. An internal technology review confirmed all appropriate security measures were in place regarding Zoom, and all Brookfield Central families were notified of the incident on Thursday evening, according to the district. The masked person was not physically in class at BCHS at the time and was logged in remotely to the Zoom class. Police said the individual has ties to the Kansas City area. The Brookfield Police Department are working to identify the person. The school administration is investigating any possible connection to students at Brookfield Central who could have shared course-specific information with an outside contact.
