Press release from the City of Appleton:
April 30, 2020
The Appleton Health Department received notice Thursday of seven additional residents testing positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 28. There are currently 18 residents in isolation. Nine residents who had COVID-19 have been released from isolation. One resident has passed away from the virus.
Six residents live in the Outagamie County portion of the city. One resident lives in the Calumet County portion of the city. Three cases were acquired through contact with a person confirmed to have COVID-19. Four cases are the result of community spread. All residents are in isolation.
Our health department is conducting contact investigations to identify and follow-up with any people who had close contact with the ill individuals. Close contacts will be educated about self-monitoring their health status by our health department nurses. They will be required to do daily symptom and temperature checks, as well as quarantine themselves for 14 days as a precaution.
We can assume that while the number of positive cases continues to rise, there are still more cases in Appleton, which have not been confirmed. We ask everyone to continue to follow the Safer at Home emergency order. Following guidelines from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and CDC will help slow the spread of the virus.
