RESTON, VA — Reston Community Center has come up with a new entertainment option perfect for these times of the new coronavirus and the need for social-distancing. RCC is presenting The Reduced Shakespeare Company in An Afternoon with the Remote Shakespeare Company on Sunday, July 12, at 3 p.m. RSC co-artistic directors Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor will share stories, take audience questions, show video clips, and rarely-performed RSC material as part of this remote, live-streamed event. "Reston and the Reduced Shakespeare Company have one of the longest and best relationships in show biz history. Of course, we know, given that most showbiz romances last about three weeks, that is a very low bar," Tichenor and Martin said, in a release. According to RCC Arts and Events Director Paul Douglas Michnewicz, "The RSC has performed at the CenterStage every single year since 1987, including the very special and unprecedented 2014 extravaganza of The Complete Works of the Reduced Shakespeare Company (abridged), for which they performed seven of the then-nine shows in the RSC repertory over two glorious weeks." RCC plans to present an RSC performance in the fall, provided public health conditions permit. In the meantime, Reston theater lovers can enjoy RSC's exclusive event remotely on July 12. More information can be found about this special show on RSC's YouTube page.
