RESTON, VA — Metro Transit Police are asking the public's help in identifying and locating a man who they say attempted to rape a passenger on the Silver Line Tuesday morning in Virginia, according to a police release.
The suspect, who boarded the train at the Wiehle-Reston East Station, physically assaulted a woman around 11:35 a.m., as the train was traveling between the McLean and East Falls Church stations, according to police. He also tried to remove her clothing and exposed himself.
The woman escaped the train at the East Falls Church station, where she reported the incident to MTPD. Police believe that at the time of the incident the woman and her young child were the only passengers on the train aside from the assailant. Investigators determined the suspect exited the Metro system at the Foggy Bottom Station in Washington, D.C.
The suspect was wearing a dark-colored shirt with the words "Piranha Joe" printed on the left sleeve, according to police. The logo of a fish and circle was also printed on the rear and left breast areas of the shirt.
MTPD released photos of the suspect:
