TAMPA, FL — An armed man who barricaded himself inside a Tampa home has surrendered to police. Tampa police received a report Thursday afternoon of shots heard in the 1400 block of West Waters Avenue. One business was struck by a bullet but no one was injured. Officers working the investigation followed leads to a home at 8408 N. Orleans Ave., Tampa, where the armed man, identified as 71-year-old Terry Butts, had barricaded himself in. Around 7 p.m., officers attempted to make contact with Butts, but he raised his gun and officers took cover. After negotiating with Butts for 90 minutes, he walked out of the home and was taken into custody. No officers were injured. Butts was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Additional charges are pending. Butts did not explained why he fired shots at the business.
