2 Pedestrians Hit By Vehicle, Hospitalized: Hamden Police

HAMDEN, CT — Two pedestrians were hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday night in Hamden, according to police. One of the pedestrians, a 59-year-old man, suffered a life-threatening head injury, according to police Capt. Ronald Smith. He was trying to cross the street when he was hit, Smith said. The accident happened around 6 p.m. in the area of Putnam Avenue and Glendale Street. A vehicle driven by a 28-year-old Hamden resident was traveling west on Putnam Avenue when it struck the first pedestrian, who was standing in the travel lane trying to cross the street, according to Smith. Smith said the driver then continued west and struck a 70-year-old Hamden resident who was standing in the street. She was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with a leg injury, according to Smith. The 59-year-old pedestrian, a Hamden resident, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with a life-threatening head injury, Smith said. The driver remained at the scene.
