AUSTIN, TX — An arrest has been made following a fatal shooting in North Austin earlier this month, the Austin Police Department said Friday.
The incident dates to Thursday, Oct. 1, at around 4:35 p.m. at the Limestone Canyon Apartments, 12118 Walnut Park. Arriving officers located a silver vehicle that had crashed into a gargage, later finding Donato Ward, 20, outside the car and a 25-year-old cousin outside the garage, police wrote in an advisory. Both men had sustained gunshot wounds, police added.
Austin-Travis County EMS medics transported both shooting victims to a local hospital, where Ward was pronounced dead just after 7:20 a.m. the next day. The cousin was treated and released.
Witnesses told police a white sedan-style vehicle was seen speeding away from the scene after the shooting, officials wrote. The Travis County Medical Examiner's office conducted an autopsy before determining the official manner of death was homicide, police added.
On Thursday, the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force arrested Caylon Goins, 18, in Round Rock, Texas, on a first degree murder warrant, police said. According to Travis County Jail records, the suspect's bond is set at $750,000 dollars. Goins was booked into the Travis County Jail. County Jail.
