Austin Ranks 15th In Pet Adoptions Amid Coronavirus

AUSTIN, TX — Pet adoptions have soared as Americans spend more time in their homes during the coronavirus pandemic — including in Austin, which ranked 15th among the nation's biggest cities in a new report. Lombardo Homes recently analyzed search volume in 50 cities nationwide to learn where Americans are emptying the shelters. Austin emerged as the city with the 15th most adoptions, sandwiched between Portland and Houston. Arlington was the only Texas city to crack the top five, ranking 4th on the list. Among the study's key findings: The top 10 cities for pet adoption are: Oakland, San Jose, Los Angeles, Arlington, Miami, Fresno, New York, Denver, Long Beach and Chicago. 42 percent of Americans have considered adopting another pet during the Covid-19 pandemic.94 percent of Americans say their pet has been source of emotional support during COViD-19More than half worry that their pet could contract coronavirus and 59 pecent have put off necessary appointments because of it.
