MONMOUTH COUNTY - A former Monmouth County correctional officer has been arrested and charged in connection with the Capitol Hill riots in Washington DC, according to officials.
Marissa Suarez, a county correctional police officer since 2019, resigned following her arrest, Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden told Patch in a statement.
Suarez charged by the FBI for her participation in the insurrection at the US Capitol on Jan. 6th, officials said.
"A violation of federal or state law of any kind is unacceptable, particularly from a sworn member of law enforcement whose role is to protect and serve," said Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden."Actions have consequences and that applies to those who participated in the peaceful protests that resulted in violence at the Capitol."
Suarez was hired as a correctional police officer in 2019.
Suarez appeared in court Friday afternoon and posted $10,000 bail, according to 6abc.
Reports published on Friday said Suarez was one of five New Jersey residents arrested within the past few days. Read more: South Jersey Woman In DC Riot Video Arrested: Reports
