3-Story Self-Storage Project In Murrieta Gets Pushback

MURRIETA, CA — A three-story, 113,395-square-foot self-storage facility proposed to be built on approximately 3.33 acres at the northeast corner of Jackson Avenue and Nutmeg Street is being appealed by two Murrieta residents, and the public can weigh in. Vincent and Trish Minutelli requested the appeal following the Murrieta Planning Commission's April 2019 decision to approve the development plan and conditional use permit for the project. At the time of the approval, city documents show that, per an initial study, the proposed project would not pose significant environmental impacts. The city's finding avoided a state requirement that would have mandated a full environmental impact report. The city findings also determined the proposed self-storage operation would not create significant noise, traffic, or other situations that would be "objectionable or detrimental" to surrounding businesses and residents. An attempt to reach out to the Minutellis for comment was not immediately successful. California law states that if the challenge regarding the project goes to court, the plaintiffs could be limited to raising only those issues brought up during the upcoming appeal hearing that will be held before the Murreita City Council at 6 p.m. February 2, 2021.
