District 109, Walgreens Partner For Pilot Vaccination Clinic

DEERFIELD, IL — Walgreens Boots Alliance, the parent company of Walgreens, is hoping to make local schools a little safer in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Deerfield School District 109 announced Friday it was partnering with the Deerfield-based company to provide a pilot vaccination clinic available to all district staff. Walgreens will provide two doses of the Pfizer vaccine to staff, with the first being administered on next Friday and the second on Feb. 19. The vaccinations will not be mandatory for district staff, according to a release. Simeck Named Superintendent Of Deerfield District 109 "As we have stated, we are continuing to look at ways to increase in-person instructional time for students who opt to do so this year, and this is an important tool to keep momentum toward that goal. However, vaccinations are just one piece of the puzzle," said Jane Westerhold and Ed Rafferty, co-interim superintendent, in a release. "As a community, we need to keep wearing masks, socially distancing, and mitigating risk." The district, currently operating under an A.M./P.M. hybrid schedule for all students, said it will be announcing an update on re-entry planning at a Feb. 8 board of education meeting.
