Learn about basics of ACT JSSA Training Institute is pleased to announce the fundamentals of ACT DATE: Tuesday, March 16, 2021 TIME: 9am-12:15pm This will be a live, real-time, interactive webinar. You will be sent a zoom link 24 hours prior to the seminar. So please be patient. This training provides 3 Category I CE's NOTE: Successful completion of this seminar will require attendance for the entire event as well as completion & submission of the evaluation form. This training is designed to give participants a basic understanding of ACT principles and practice. The workshop is ideal for practitioners to develop basic knowledge about the model and how to incorporate elements from it into their current practice. The ACT model will be reviewed and participants will engage in experiential exercises and practice intended to build skills that they can readily integrate into their work. Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: • Identify and describe the drivers of psychological suffering: experiential avoidance and cognitive fusion • Identify and describe the 3 pillars of ACT: Openness, Awareness, and Engagement • Use the ACT model to help clients differentiate between ineffective and meaningful actions • Identify and practice at least 3 ACT metaphors and/or in-session exercises AGENDA 9:00 – 10:30 AM (1.5) ● Introduction to the ACT model ● The ubiquity of human suffering ● The paradox of avoidance and control ● The psychological flexibility model 10:30-10:40 AM / Break 10:45 AM – 12:15 PM (1.5) ● Getting started with ACT ● The 3 pillars in ACT ● Metaphors and experiential interventions in session PRESENTER: Miranda Morris, PhD is an ACBS Peer Reviewed ACT Trainer who conducts regular trainings in ACT and other contextual behavioral therapies. She is a licensed psychologist and Co-Founder of True North Therapy and Training, a group practice in Bethesda, MD. Miranda treats a broad range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems, and pervasive difficulties often referred to as personality disorders. She currently serves as President Elect of Executive Board of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS) and is President Emeritus of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the ACBS ______________________________________________________________________________________________________ 3 Category I CE's will be provided to all participants in the training The Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA) is authorized by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners to sponsor Category 1 continuing education programs. The D.C. and Virginia Boards of Social Work usually recognize the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners’ approval. Please contact your state board for verification. JSSA maintains responsibility for this program. JSSA is an approved sponsor of CE credits for psychologists in Maryland under the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. JSSA maintains responsibility for this program. JSSA has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6457. In order to receive a certificate, registrants must attend the entire session.
