Description
NORRISTOWN, PA — In celebration of Major Biden, the first shelter dog to ever live in the White House, Montgomery County has announced a themed contest.
All residents are welcome to submit an entry for their dog that has "the theme of the 2021 Inauguration."
"Our hope is to highlight the need for adoption of shelter dogs into welcoming, safe homes," Montgomery County Treasurer Jason Salus said. "Since we also provide dog licenses, it is the perfect opportunity to feature the dogs of Montgomery County."
Major, a German Shepherd from the Delaware Humane Association, assumed his duties as First Dog this week. While President Joe Biden was inaugurated Wednesday, Major's indoguration ceremony was held separately, with equal pomp and circumstance, online.
The winner of the Montgomery County contest will be named the "First Dog" of the county, and their photo will be featured on the county website. Prizes will be awarded for runner up pups.
To submit an entry to the Montgomery County photo contest, email a photo of your dog (no humans) to [email protected]. Include the dog's name in the subject line.
Entries will be judged by the sheriff's office and the district attorney's office. The deadline is Jan. 31.
