FALLS TOWNSHIP, PA — A proposed smoking ordinance in Falls Township would expand the number of publicly owned spaces on which lighting up would be banned. Falls supervisors this week voted to authorize advertising the proposed change. If adopted, it would prohibit smoking on any township property that is not designated as a smoking area. It would mirror the ordinance already in place at township-owned parks, according to attorney Lauren Gallagher. Currently, the Falls Township municipal complex does not have a designated smoking area. The ordinance, which supervisors are expected to consider during their Feb. 16 meeting, includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes and other "lighted smoking instruments," as well as vaping. Smoking already is banned at most indoor places in Pennsylvania under the state's Clean Indoor Air Act, which became law in 20018. Last year, state lawmakers introduced a bill that would have extended the act to include all public places.
