CONCORD, CA — A magnitude 3.o earthquake struck the Concord area Thursday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The quake hit at 4:48 p.m. Thursday with the epicenter in Concord, in the vicinity north of Cowell Road and west of Galindo Street. Initially recorded as a 3.1-magnitude, Thursday's earthquake was felt in Concord, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Antioch, Alamo, Moraga, Orinda, Danville, Benicia, Crockett, Clayton and Pittsburg. A 3.6-magnitude earthquake struck Concord one week ago on Thursday, Jan. 15. Prior to that, a 2.7-magnitude quake rattled Concord on Jan. 5, the USGS reported. There have been no reports of injuries or damage from the earthquakes. The USGS noted that in 2003, the Working Group for California Earthquake Probability assigned a 4 percent probability that the Concord-Green Valley Fault system would produce a magnitude 6.7 or larger earthquake within the next 30 years.
