HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Do you have an old computer or cell phone that works but is no longer needed? Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Goodwill Industries are making it easy to get rid of old electronics for donation or recycling.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Americans generated 2.7 million tons of consumer electronics goods in 2018, but recycled about 1 million tons.
A special electronic donation and recycling event is set for Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23 at North Mecklenburg Recycling Center, located at 12300 N. Statesville Road in Huntersville from 9 a.m until noon.
"This collaborative effort is to allow good working electronics the chance to be repurposed or reused. If the electronics are deemed neither, Mecklenburg County can certainly send them to be recycled with the Mecklenburg County contracted Vendor," organizers said.
