The town has contracted with Bartlett Tree Experts who will start working on the project on Monday, January 25. The project is estimated to last for two weeks. The purpose of the inventory is to improve the maintenance and management of our street trees which are a critical part of our tree canopy."One of our core values states that our 'citizens must live in a healthy environment, so town government will protect watersheds, trees, air quality, and other elements of the town's ecology,' so we're pleased to focus on our tree canopy with this project," said Public Works Manager Jesse Bouk. The Town of Davidson received a grant in the amount of $9,915.63 from the North Carolina Forest Service's Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program; the town is matching those funds with $9,915.63 for a total cost of $19,831.26 to complete the tree inventory and canopy management plan. In-kind contributions from volunteers and staff tree planting and educational activities will add an additional $2,230 of value. This brings the project's total cost to $22,061.26."We are so grateful to our volunteers and the wider Davidson community who regularly come out to support sustainability in our town. Their efforts allow our tree canopy to flourish," says town arborist Pete Grisewood. The inventory report will be completed in mid-2021, and results will be made available to the public. For more information, please contact Pete Grisewood, Town of Davidson Arborist, at [email protected].
