Greenfield Coronavirus Cases Decrease, Yet Dwarf Pre-July Numbers

GREENFIELD, WI — Coronavirus cases in Greenfield have declined each of the last three weeks after hitting a peak during the first full week of July, health department data shows. During the week of July 5-11, health department officials recorded 90 new cases in the city. Since then, the city has seen 75, 49 and 36 new reported cases in subsequent weeks. While the case numbers are steadily declining in Greenfield, local health officials say case trends over the last four weeks still dwarf the number of cases that had been previously reported. "50 percent of the cumulative total of confirmed cases in Greenfield have been reported since July 1," the Greenfield Health Department said in their weekly update on Aug. 1. "This means that it is likely that we will continue to see high COVID-19 activity in the coming weeks as disease investigations are completed." According to current data, there have been 568 cumulative cases in Greenfield to date, and 30 percent of those cases had patients with underlying health conditions. Out of 568 total cases in Greenfield, health department officials said a total of 53 percent of patients identified as white, 29 percent identified as Hispanic, 7 percent identified as Black, 4 percent identified as Asian, and 4 did not identify. According to the most recent data, women make up 57 percent of all confirmed COVID-19 cases in Greenfield compared to 43 percent of cases reported by men. Here is how COVID-19 case trends broke down by age, according to the Greenfield Health Department. Greenfield Health Department officials said 10 percent of confirmed cases were reported by people who were at least 80 years old, 18 percent were between the ages of 60-79 years, 27 percent were between the ages of 40-59 years, 39 percent were between the ages of 18-39 years and 6 percent were between the ages of 0-17 years old.
