GREENFIELD, WI — Authorities in Greenfield say a 52-year-old woman has been cited with disorderly conduct after a witness told police the woman threw lit clothing on fire and threw it in into the street.
Greenfield police were sent to the 4600 block of S. 108th Street just after 3 p.m. on Aug. 10 and reported seeing a pile of clothing on fire near the northbound lanes of S. 108th Street.
Authorities said the woman told the officer she was trying to light a cigarette when she accidentally started the clothing on fire. The woman told police there were "ungodly things" on her clothes and did not know what to do with them.
The officer reported telling the woman that she should have thrown them out into the garbage.
When another officer spoke with the person who called police, they said they saw the woman throw the clothes into the road, only to retrieve them multiple times while they were on fire.
Police cited the woman for disorderly conduct and the clothing was cleaned up, authorities said.
