Description

From the Edmonds School District: January 12, 2021 Thanks to a grant from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Washington Kids in Transition will be able to continue support for students and families in our district experiencing homelessness, who qualify for the Federal Free or Reduced Meal Program and those in foster care. One of the first purchases with the grant includes a new freezer to store food so students can take home frozen fruits and veggies! The community-based organization was one of 40 in Washington to receive a grant, and the award will further our long-standing collaboration to support district families who rely on their assistance. Some of the funding was used to purchase a new freezer to hold frozen food items for students to take home. S.T.E.M. and art kits will also be available every week for students to do at Hub and take home. As physical distancing restrictions permit, future plans for the organization and Edmonds School District include the creation of a mentoring program to complement learning as well as building skills for older students to learn budgeting, grocery shopping, resumé building, job searching, and more.
