Description
EVERETT, WA — A suspicious package found at Naval Station Everett prompted a lockdown at the base and surrounding areas Thursday morning. According to the U.S. Navy, a team of explosives specialists responded to the base's north gate at 8:15 a.m. The base returned to normal operations about four hours later.
During the response, the Navy activated its emergency operations center, instructing all personnel to stay indoors and limited access to the base.
KOMO News reported neighboring businesses were evacuated during the investigation, and a portion of Marine View Drive was fully closed.
In an update posted just before noon, Navy officials said the bomb squad used a robot to examine a truck associated with the package. A few minutes later, the Navy investigators determined the device was not a threat and the base lifted its precautionary measures. Further information on the package's contents was not immediately available.
Other agencies that assisted at the scene include the Everett Police Department and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
