NEW HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for illegally possessing two handguns, according to prosecutors. Carlos Barnes, aka "Buddha," 29, was also sentenced to three years of supervised release.
According to prosecutors, Hamden police arrested Barnes Oct. 12, 2019, after they found him
New Haven Man Sentenced to 57 Months in Federal Prison for Illegally Possessing 2 Handguns in possession of a Taurus Millennium G2 9mm handgun and a Springfield XD-40 .40 caliber handgun with an obliterated serial number.
Barnes was previously convicted in state court of carrying a pistol without a permit, sale of illegal drugs, and first-degree robbery. Convicted felons are prohibited by federal law to have guns or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
Barnes has been detained since his arrest. He pleaded guilty July 9, 2020, to one count of possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon.
