Manchester Police Cruiser Hit As Car Burglaries Thwarted

MANCHESTER, CT —A Manchester police cruiser was hit as a careful of juveniles suspected of burglary fled a local apartment complex, police said. At about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to Buckland Hills Drive and the parking area for the Pavilions Apartments after a resident who was leaving for work reported seeing a white Kia sedan with four people in it traveling in the area, according to a report. Police were told the occupants were checking car doors, a report indicates. Officers located the Kia in a rear parking area and it side-swiped a police cruiser while speeding from the scene, according to a report. The Kia continued across a grassy knoll, onto Buckland Hills Driver and headed west toward Interstate-84, according to a report. Windsor police then reported the Kia had been stolen in Bloomfield and was involved in vehicle burglaries in Windsor the previous night, a report indicates. The Kia was located in Hartford Wednesday morning, along with a second stolen vehicle that was reported taken from Windsor the previous night, police said. Two girls and a boy — all juveniles — were taken into custody for charges related to the stolen vehicles, police said. Manchester police said they are investigating the juveniles' involvement with local incidents. Based on video from the area, it appears the Kia encountered by officers at the Pavilions was the same vehicle involved in attempted burglaries in the Meadowbrook Drive area.
