AUSTIN, TX — Most Austin-area stores will be closed on Christmas Day, ushering in the mad rush to retailers during shortened hours before the holiday. The region's main grocer, HEB, is closed Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve, the grocery store chain scheduled to close by 8 p.m. and cut its curbside and home delivery services at 7 p.m. Store pharmacies were scheduled to close even earlier on Christmas Eve, at 5 p.m. Randalls, another popular option, will be open on Christmas Day, but during limited hours of operation. According to the company website, stores will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walmart stores scheduled to operate until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve before closing all stores for Christmas Day. Target also will be closed on Christmas Day after most stores opened on Christmas Eve from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Stores will reopen at 7 a.m. the day after Christmas Day. Hours may vary by store, so it's a good idea to check Target.com or the Target app for specifics. The Aldi store in Pflugerville will close on Christmas Day too. Fiesta Mart stores also observe Christmas Day. Fortunately for last-minute shoppers, many CVS stores will be open Christmas Day but with limited hours depending on the store. With its long hours of operation throughout the week, the chain is often a good alternative for some. Walgreen's will operate on a limited schedule, however, with hours varying by store. Some restaurants will be open on Christmas Day, including Applebees, Boston Market, Dunkin, Fogo De Chao (11 am. to 10 p.m.) IHOP and McDonald's. Hours of operation vary by location, so it's a good idea to check ahead prior to arrival.
