AUSTIN, TX — Baylor Scott & White Health continues vaccinating its health care workers after receiving nearly 27,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine, officials said Thursday. The vaccinations have been taking place across the health care system's sites statewide, officials said. To date, the system has secured 26,825 doses that are distributed within hours of securing the shipment, officials said in an advisory. Hospital system officials added that none of the available vaccines are held back. More than 49,000 employees and 7,300 active physicians serve Texans through Baylor Scott & White's 1,100-plus access points, officials noted. The organization is also immunizing health care workers at its partner facilities as well as contracted workers essential to supporting patient care throughout the health system, officials added. "We are committed to expeditiously distributing the COVID-19 vaccine," said Alejandro Arroliga, chief medical officer, Baylor Scott & White. "As the state's largest not-for-profit health system, our first responsibility to the community is to safeguard the caregivers Texans are dependent upon." Arroliga added: "We are also committed to transparency throughout this process so the communities we serve have the latest information, as we near the ability to begin vaccinating segments of the public most at risk." Residents interested in receiving an email notification when Baylor Scott & White begins scheduling vaccinations for those in Phase 1B may enter their contact information via the hospital system's COVID-19 Vaccine Update portal.
