From City of Sioux Falls: October 23, 2020 Sioux Falls area children and adults will join a nationwide attempt to break a world record by reading the same book on the same day. The 2020 book is Evelyn Del Rey is Moving Away by Meg Medina. The day is Thursday, October 29, 2020. It's part of Jumpstart's Read for the Record campaign, which encourages shared reading for early learners. The annual campaign was launched more than a decade ago to highlight the importance of building early literacy and language skills so that every child enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. This will be the tenth year Siouxland Libraries has participated. Video recordings of local celebrities were created to help kids safely participate. Celebrities include Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken, children's author Hector Curriel, and Ben and Patty of 97.3 KKRC. Schools and day cares can participate by calling the Downtown Library for a link to the recordings at 367-8700 or emailing [email protected]. Vanessa Gomez of Dakota News Now will read the story at 9 a.m. Siouxland Libraries' Library Associate Aldi Bonander will read at 2 p.m. on Facebook Live.
