Hoboken Police Catch Assault Suspect, Then Catch Him Again

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken police say that they had to catch a suspect twice on Jan. 10 after they brought him to the hospital and he tried to leave mid-treatment. They ultimately charged Jared Mullin, 22, of Jackson with escape, aggravated assault, obstruction of administration of law, and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Police said that around 10 p.m. on Jan. 10, Officer Francis McCourt was approached in the area of 70 Hudson St. and was informed of an injured person lying on the ground in the area of River Street and Hudson Place. Upon arrival, McCourt found the injured person standing in the street, police said. He appeared dazed, unsteady on his feet, and had a large contusion on his forehead, police said. Someone told the officer that the victim had been knocked unconscious. McCourt canvased the area and interviewed witnesses, with help from Sgt. Edward Sellick, Sgt. Nicholas Burke, Detective Connor Milne, Officer Damian Bates, Officer Paul Quinn, Officer James Barbro, and Officer Nicklas Valerius. Through their investigation, police identified Mullin as a suspect. They said Mullin had visible signs of injuries, so after being transported to police headquarters, he was transported to Hoboken University Medical Center for treatment. While under arrest and guarded by Officer Daniel Grossi, Mullin attempted to escape from the hospital while in the middle of being treated, police said. Police said that Grossi, with the help of hospital security, was able to regain control of Mullin and re-secure him. Mullin's charges were placed on a warrant and he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, police said. The defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
